Description
Our bird community science volunteers support Oxbow’s ongoing bird research and monitoring project to measure the impacts of ecological restoration projects on bird populations. Volunteers conduct monthly morning surveys in teams between April and August. Surveys usually start around sunrise and last about 3 hours and include walking over uneven terrain. Volunteers should be able to easily identify common local birds by sight and sound and be able to investigate unknown or rarer species. Training on how to do bird surveys will be provided and new volunteers will be paired with team members with experience on this project. Please provide information about your birding experience in the notes section or send an email to volunteer@oxbow.org to share more details. Space on teams is limited and training will begin at the end of February, so apply early for the best chances of joining a team!

Conservation & Restoration
Description
Our Conservation volunteering is currently on hold until March 6th, but you can sign up here to set up your first volunteer day of the year. Conservation volunteers help our conservation team with ecological restoration and research projects on scheduled Wednesdays with both a morning and afternoon shift available. Most work occurs at Oxbow, though off-site and non-Wednesday weekday opportunities sometimes pop up. Helping with projects such as weeding, planting, and conducting research will likely require hiking, bushwhacking, digging, and generally getting dirty and sweaty in all weather conditions, so volunteers should come prepared! Volunteers can choose to participate on a weekly or monthly schedule or participate off-and-on as their schedule allows.

Description

Join Oxbow’s Conservation Team at our Saturday restoration work party! On the 2nd Saturday of each month we get together to learn about and improve critical habitats for plants and wildlife and help combat climate change. Work happens outdoors, rain or shine, and focuses on a particular project and/or location, such as protecting trees and digging up blackberries. With your help, we can help bring back salmon (and orcas!) and rebuild a resilient landscape that supports people’s livelihoods, produces food, and remains beautiful and ecologically diverse! Work parties are limited to 20 volunteers. Ages 13 and under are welcome with an adult volunteer. Volunteers age 14 and up may come on their own.
