Description

Farmer in-School Visits

Oxbow’s in-school programs were born in 2013 and serve as an opportunity for students to bring a special guest visitor—a farmer—into the classroom during the season when outdoor field trips aren’t possible. Oxbow’s Educational Farmers can bring a bit of the farm into your classroom for one of several interactive lessons.

Who: All programs are appropriate for preschool – 5th grade; up to 30 students

When: January through March, Tuesday – Thursday for 45 – 50 minutes at a time that works for your classroom. We will contact you to set the time.

What: We offer a range of topics, see below!

Cost: Each lesson is $140; two or more consecutive programs are $100 each

Topics:

  • “Wonder Worms!” – What makes healthy soil? We explore soil, worms and their role, look at worm anatomy, and play with them in the worm bin.
  • “Grow Garbage into Gardens” – Decomposition, compost, recycle, grown food!
  • “Seeds Feed Me” – Are seeds only for planting? NO! You eat seeds every day! We will explore seeds, play seed games, eat some, and grow some too.

SCHOLARSHIPS: If field trip costs pose a hardship, please contact us at education@oxbow.org for scholarship information.

If this all sounds fun then you might want to consider our Pumpkin Package. This is our three-part series that unfolds over the course of a school year. It begins with a fall visit to the farm and ends with a return visit in the springtime. Over the course of their three classes, students will trace the life cycle of a pumpkin in reverse, from seed to seeding fruit.

Here’s the deal: Fall field trip + winter farmer visit = 50% off your spring field trip
